Australian Etchells Winter Championship
Mooloolaba YC

Mooloolaba skippers Dave TURTON and Bill BUTLER finished first and third in Race 1 of the Saint Malo Etchells Winter Championship. Mark DOYLE from Pittwater split the local boats to take second place.
The right hand side of the course was favoured and anyone who went left paid the penalty. Place getters were Noel DRENNAN fourth, Ian JOHNSON fifth, John WARLOW sixth, Cameron MILES seventh, Peter McNEILL eighth, Mark BRADFORD ninth and Cameron THORPE tenth.

Perfect sailing conditions 6-8 knots SW to SE, smooth seas and cloudless skies, 24 degrees and this is winter!

Race 2
The breeze shifted further left to the East and the pressure dropped to 4 to 6 knots. John BERTRAND picked the shift and led at the top mark from Chris VILLA from Port Macquarie.

The course was shortened as the breeze faded. Bertrand held first place from VILLA and Glen TUCKER third. Other placings were Wayne MERCER fouth, Chris JACKSON fifth, Peter McNEILL sixth, Gary CASSIDY seventh, Cameron APPLETON eighth, Noel DRENNAN ninth, and Gary SMITH tenth.
