ISAF did not enter the Bacardi Cup 2002 into the World Sailing Rankings issued 30 April. This decision was taken as the event is an invitational event and does not follow the normal class rules for advertising and crew weight.

Many sailors protested against this decision and ISAF has now decided to include the Bacardi Cup in the Rankings and re-issue the Star Class Rankings for the benefit of the sailors.

At the same time it was decided that the 2003 Bacardi Cup should not be a grade 1 ISAF unless the full advertising rules for the Olympic Classes (cat C) apply and the weight limit rule and any other class rules apply as for the Olympic Sailing Regatta.
