Jules Verne Trophy

Orange has covered 500 miles in the first 24 hours and is now just off the coast of Portugal. Their average speed for the first 24 hours was 21 knots.
However they are being cautious and still not driving the maxi catamaran 100% according to Captain Peyron:
“ What we’re doing is feeling whether the boat is suffering or not and keeping an eye on everything. So we musn’t push too hard, that’s to say not go over a certain level that’s somewhere around 97-98%. And for the time being we’re more around 85-90%.”

After a tricky passage around Cape Finistre, Orange is now cantering towards the Canaries. With this rise in power, the sailors are of course thinking about Sir Peter Blake’s record set in 1994 on Enza; Ushant to the Equator in 7 days, 4 hours and 11 minutes.
