Snipe World Championships

Race 1 of the Snipe Worlds got underway after a general recall (Z & I flags). 61 boats started cleanly in southerly winds of 15-18 knots and big rolling seas. An Olympic course was set.
At the first mark Uruguyans Santiago Silveira-Nicolas Shaban led followed closely by Argentines Cristian/Alejandro Noe and Luis Soubie-Celia Granucci. Cubans Nelido Manso/Octavio Lorenzo moved into 3rd by the bottom mark. On the final downwind leg, the wind slowly began to drop, but the big seas remained. The last beat found lighter breezes of 10 knots with many positions shifting. The Noe brothers passed the Uruguyans at the finish with the following top 10:
