Sailors in the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games indulged their creative side when they were invited to contribute to murals at the National Sailing Centre on Tuesday.
They were invited to paint whatever they wanted on the two big murals (2.15m) in their rest area.
"I drew my national flag and, of course, the gold medal, because I really want it," said windsurfer
Kiran Badloe (NED).
"I tried to draw the silver fern, a symbol from New Zealand that means new life, and the same symbol the New Zealand team (members) wear around our necks on our Maori necklaces," said Byte sailor
Elise Beavis (NZL).
Sailors crowded around the mural when the day's racing was delayed in the morning because of the lack of wind.
"It's better than the waiting, as we are always waiting," said Estonian
Nikita Rom who competes in boys windsurfing.
"We drew the sun, the rainbow, and we also drew the boats we usually sail in," said Portugal's
Ines Sobral, who combined her artwork with fellow girls Byte sailor
Constanze Stolz (GER).
The murals will be displayed at the Youth Olympic Village.
