Christopher is one of 24 lucky youth sailors selected through the ISAF Athlete Participation Programme (APP), to receive support to compete in Istanbul.

I asked Christopher were he learnt to sail?

"I started sailing when I was 10 years old and in the last six years I have sailed Prams, Optimists, the Sun Fish and now a Laser."

He said he used to play basketball and loves wakeboarding and anything to do with the water. Now his focus is on sailing.

How do the sailing conditions here in Istanbul compare to the Bahamas?

"In summer we sail mainly in around 8 knots but in winter its definitely windier, more like 15 knots. Its pretty choppy here, there is a lot of ships in the channel."

"The water here is really dirty, I can's see the bottom its black!"

So how did Christopher go on his first day of racing at the ISAF Youth Worlds?

"It's my first time in Istanbul, I got a tenth in the first race, I was second round the top mark but was flagged, the second race I got a bad start and finished 33rd."

For sure Christopher is a guy who is going to benefit from his experience racing here in Istanbul at his first ISAF Youth World Championship. When asked what his aims were form participating he said,

"I'd like to do well, have fun and really learn"
