An ISAF International Judges Seminar was held in Montevideo, Uruguay September 20-23, 2009 at the Yacht Club Uruguayo, the national authority for sailing in Uruguay. This major yacht club celebrated its 100th anniversary recently. We are grateful to Bernie Knuppel and Patricia Gonzales, our local coordinators, for their fine job preparing for the seminar. Thanks also go to the Commodore Gustavo Coll for inviting us to typical Uruguay-style barbeque at the club’s cozy beachside facility.

Eight delegates from Uruguay, Brazil, Chile and Argentina participated. Six took the exam. Four achieved scores on the exam that meet the seminar/test portion of the qualification to become International Judge. Developing certified race officials in South America is especially important as the 2016 Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro.
