Eric Nabb, who is only fourteen years old, won The Bahamas National Laser Radial (singlehanded) division in November last year and has now qualified to represent the Bahamas at the 2012 Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships.
He will be the third Bahamian to ever compete at this stage and age for his country. Young Nabb is part of a phenomenal sailing program that began five years ago in Grand Bahama and has produced a group of confident sailors and independent young men and women.
This young sportsman has only been sailing for three years and since finding out that he will represent his country Eric, his coach, and his family have been working to secure funding for to cover travel costs, shipping, insurance and sponsorship collateral for this trip.
One of the first sponsors to reach out to Eric was PharmaChem in Grand Bahama, "PharmaChem is pleased to give its full support and congratulate young Eric Nabb on his outstanding accomplishments in successfully qualifying for the Youth Worlds in Dublin.
"We appreciate his hard work and dedication and we have complete confidence that he will do his best to show case that the young people of The Bahamas are capable of competing on an international level. We are proud of him as a young man and wish him well."
Nabb is currently training after school, on weekends and throughout his holidays for his first International competition. "I am extremely grateful for this kind donation from PharamaChem Technologies," said Nabb. "This will go a long way in offsetting the cost for my travel and training costs. I am really getting excited about representing my country and I am so thankful for this support."
Nabb's coach, David Valentine, Director of Sailing GB Sailing Club is looking forward to an exciting international tournament for his young sailor. "Eric Nabb has turned hard work and dedication into this opportunity to represent his country in the 2012 ISAF Youth Worlds. Eric is young and will find the event his biggest challenge yet.
"We hope Eric will compete to the best of his ability this summer against 63 other nations around the world. This experience will then fuel a life-long passion for sailing. Eric will have to consistently improve his sailing ability to stay ahead of the game. Grand Bahama Sailing Club is proud to be represented by Eric - and we hope the level of competition in the Bahamas will continue to increase to produce the best caliber of Bahamian sailors possible."
