Olympic sailor Krystal WEIR used a meet and greet session with the public at her home club in Sandringham to formally announce Sail Melbourne in December, the first leg of the inaugural ISAF Sailing World Cup, would be the start of her 2012 London Olympic Games campaign.
Seven members of the hugely successful Australian Olympic Team were at Sandringham Yacht Club on Tuesday and none were more enthusiastic about their future Olympic campaigns than Krystal WEIR.

The 23-year-old skippered an Yngling in Qingdao to a top 10 finish this year and also won the silver medal at the 2008 Yngling Worlds, however she will jump back into her class of choice, the Laser Radial, for another tilt at an Olympic Sailing Competition.

“I will be competing at Sail Melbourne again this year - it’s at my home club and it’s always lots of fun and I will be back in a Laser,” WEIR said yesterday.

The reigning Australian Laser Radial champion will headline an event which is now the first leg of the ISAF Sailing World Cup - Sail Melbourne.

WEIR’s announcement will now signal the continuation of one of the most competitive rivalries in her sport – that between 2008 Olympic Laser Radial representative, Royal Brighton sailor Sarah BLANCK, who finished fourth at both the Athens and Beijing Games, and herself.
