Other significant experiences

President and founder of Fundacion Ecomar since 1998, through which 15000 children, from all kind of social backgrounds throughout the whole country, have had the opportunity to participate in a Week at the Sea. During this educational week, children have left aside other school subjects to learn how to sail and, at the same time, have received very thorough environmental education. The aim is that future generations will know how to look after our coast lines and oceans for the future.

Goals

If elected as ISAF Vice President and with the support of the President and the rest of the Executive Committee, I would like to focus on the following goals/objectives the coming 4 years:
  • Based on my own Olympic experience work with the Athletes Commission to further improve the quality and appeal of major international events for the Olympic classes through promotion of the ISAF World Cup, ISAF Worlds and the Olympic Classes World Championships.
  • Work with the Coaches Commission to further develop programs for Olympic level coaching.
  • Promote and focus on the environmental and ecological friendly aspect of our sport
  • In line with the recommendations in the ISAF Strategic Plan secure maximum efficiency in the decision making process by evaluating existing procedures
  • To support initiatives to maintain the 11 Olympic Medals for 2012 and work in order to make sailing one of the most popular sport on the Olympic programme
