Report from ISAF Match Racing Umpiring Seminar, Gdansk, Poland, June 4-8, 2008
Polish Yachting Association (PYA) and National Sailing Center in Gdansk, Gorki Zachodnie, Poland hosted an IU seminar in conjunction with the PYA Match Race Trophy 2008 Grade 3 match racing event. The seminar included two days of classroom sessions, June 4-5, and three days of on the water umpiring at the event, June 6-8. ISAF thanks both organizations for organizing the seminar.
The match racing event was sailed in boats provided by Open Yachting Center and the Polish National Delphia 24 Class Association. The members of the race committee were Miroslaw Rychcik, Cezariusz Piorczyk, Monica Kordek, Darius Olecki and Maciej Cylupa. ISAF thanks them for making the event possible and for running it very competently.
There were 9 delegates from Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Slovenia and Spain. Their efforts and contribution made the seminar a great success. They worked hard in the classroom part and did a great job as umpires in the match racing event. There is a good reason to believe that ISAF will soon have several new IUs as a result of the seminar.
Zofia Truchanowicz was the coordinator of the seminar and the event, and she also participated as a delegate. She and the employees of the National Sailing Center are owed many tanks for their work which made the seminar possible. The instructors were Philippe Gomez (FRA) and Jan Stage (DEN).
