The XII Games of the Small States of Europe, concluded in Monaco last week, with the hosts demonstrating their sailing skills as they picked up seven medals to finish top of the nations table. George ANDREADIS (GRE), ISAF Vice-President, was in Monaco as the ISAF Technical Delegate for the Games.
During the Games, which took place from 4-9 June, the ISAF Vice-President handed out ISAF Centenary certificates to the participating athletes. Amongst the recipients were Lucie Colombe CHAILAN and Honor POLTURAK, aged 10 and 9 respectively, two of the youngest competitors at the Games, both representing the host nation.
A total of 50 athletes competed across the four sailing events, representing Monaco, San Marino, Cyprus, Malta, Andorra and Iceland. The hosts proved the most successful nation, winning seven medals in all. Victory in the women’s Laser Radial went to Audrey PERALDI (MON), after a final race battle with Martina TOSI (SMR), whilst Benjamin BORG (MLT) won in the 17-strong men’s fleet. In Optimist, the girls’ title went to Maylis DARCET (MON) and Sean BORG (MLT) made it a double win for Malta with victory in the boys’ fleet.
