Soling European Championship 2005
Medemblik, Netherlands

World Champions Roman KOCH, Maxl KOCH and Gregor BORNEMANN (GER) took the opening bullet at the Soling European Championship in Medemblik, Netherlands.
They were followed by the Hungarian team of Georgy WOSSOLA, Peter NEMETH and Karoly VEZER with Dag USTERUD, Arne OTTESTAD and Eskil GOLDEN (NOR) third.

Two Dutch teams rounded out the top five with Johan OFFERMANS, Hans ZIJLSTRA and Bas DUSEE finishing ahead of Rudy DEN OUTER, Leo DETERMAN and Ronald DEN AREND.

Winds were favourable in Medemblik with a steady 14 knots. No rain and some sunshine made for a very enjoyable race on the IJsselmeer.

KOCH said that sailing on the IJsselmeer is difficult with the choppy waters, but that it is also what makes it interesting. Most of all he says racing on the IJsselmeer is very exciting. Whether the race was exciting for him is perhaps a more pertinent question, since the boats were a long way apart and never really gained on each other during the race.

Behind the leaders the battle for second was tighter with WOSSOLA, NEMETH and VEZER racing past the Norwegians to claim second.
