Warnemuende Week 2005
Warnemuende, Germany

The start of the 68th edition of the ISAF Grade 3 Warnemuende Week, an ISAF Grade 2 event for the Lasers competing there in the Laser Europa Cup, has turned into a test of patience for the sailors in Warnemünde, Germany with light winds throughout the opening two days.
A large majority of the 2,000 sailors competing over 28 classes spent yesterday waiting for the wind. However the 250+ Laser sailors competing in the Laser Europa Cup completed two more races after also having completed two on the first day of the competition on Saturday. Saturday’s races saw victories go to the runner up in the recent ISAF Grade 1 Kieler Woche, Matias DEL SOLAR (CHI) and to Germany’s Tobias SCHADEWALDT.

SCHADEWALDT got off to a great start yesterday and added a bullet in race three to the one he won on Saturday. However he black flagged in four race dropping him to 31 overall. The bullet in the final race went to Rutger VAN SCHAARDENBURG (NED) which lifts him to second overall, behind Germany’s Simon GROTELÜSCHEN, who has made the most consistent start with top ten finishes in all four races.

Germany also leads the Laser Radial with Philipp GLÄSER top after two bullets from three races. Russia’s Anatasia CHERNOVA is just one point behind and the leading women. In the Yngling, 2004 Olympic silver medallists Ruslana TARAN, Anna KALININA and Svetlana MATEVUSHEVA (UKR) have dominated with a second place in race one followed by three bullets.
