Final Report

O'Day Soling Championship
Lake Michigan

The annual O'Day Regatta was held in Chicago at the newly renovated Chicago Yacht Club Belmont Station over the weekend of September 25 and 26.
A small, but competitive, fleet of seven boats sailed three races on Saturday in moderate breezes and two shortened races on Sunday in a dying wind. Charlie KAMPS with crew John BAILEY and Vitas KASNIUNAS had all firsts and seconds to run away with the event.

Jorgen JOHNSSON and Joe HOEKSEMA made attempts at catching Kamps, but each had to count a bad finish while Kamps was able to throw out a second. The fleet gathered at the Club for an all you can eat pasta dinner on Saturday night after John KENNEDY wore himself out pouring rum and tonics on the afterdeck.

Trophies were awarded on Sunday for the Lake Michigan Championship Series as well as for the O'Day.(The Lake Michigan is a combination of the McNulty, Wilmette Race Weekend, and the O'Day.) Once again, Charlie KAMPS was the winner. Joe HOEKSEMA and John KENNEDY were a distant second and third. Dave WILLIAMS says we should call it the 2004 Lake Michigan Kampionship! All in all, it was a great ending to the Soling season on Lake Michigan.
