Antwerp, Belgium was selected to host the 1920 Olympiad in April 1919. Post War Belgium managed to demonstrate the Olympic spirit by gathering enough resources in a limited amount of time to host the games.

Nynäshamn, Sweden was selected above Gothenburg to host the 1912 Olympic Sailing Competition due to its proximity to Stockholm and its vantage points that allowed racing to be viewed from the land.

At the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships the Ukrainian sailing team qualified sailors in the Men's and Women's RS:X and the Finn class for the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.

After successfully qualifying sailors in six events at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, the Croatian Sailing Team have named their athletes for the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.

Sailing was declared an integral part of the Olympic Games in 1908, despite it being the only sport that could not take place in a stadium.
